Hybrid Potato Breeder

Aardevo started in 2019 as a joint venture between KWS SAAT, a global player in seed breeding, and J.R. Simplot Company, one of the largest potato processors in the world. In Aardevo, the full focus lies on developing diploid hybrid potato varieties. With a growing international team, we are building on a program that has been under development since 2012. With hybrid breeding technology, our aim is to drastically accelerate the development of new potato varieties: Aardevo is working on a new future for potato breeding and cultivation.

 

Our Hybrid Potato Breeding Team is seeking at the earliest opportunity a Hybrid Potato Breeder (m/f) on a full-time basis, located at the Aardevo headquarter in Nagele (The Netherlands).

 

Position

As hybrid potato breeder at Aardevo, you play a crucial role in the development of our young breeding pipeline: You work on the development of inbred lines and experimental hybrids. You take responsibility in planning and setting up trials and you collect breeding data in the field and glass house. Utilizing all relevant breeding technologies including MAS and genomic selection, you are able to select superior parental lines and hybrids, getting closer to first product release.

 

Furthermore, you have a leading role developing a network of trial locations. You are ready to regularly visit trial locations in the Netherlands and EU countries (ca. 20 % travel), and you enjoy communicating and arranging trials with external partners.

 

You are part of the hybrid potato breeding team and collaborate closely with technicians, breeders and scientists.

 

Profile

You enjoy walking the fields just as analysing data. You are eager to learn, and working on an innovative breeding concept triggers your creativity. You are a pragmatic team player with an entrepreneurial mindset.

 

  • M.Sc. or PhD in plant breeding, agronomy or related field
  • Practical knowledge of designing and analysing field trials
  • Knowledge of agronomy and plant production, preferably potato or vegetables
  • Advanced knowledge in MS Office and familiarity with standard general-purpose statistical software and databases
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English language, Dutch and Spanish would be an asset
