Molecular Breeding Associate

To strengthen our international breeding and R&D team, Aardevo is recruiting a Molecular breeding associate in hybrid potato (m/f) on a full-time basis, based in our headquarters in Nagele, The Netherlands.



As a molecular breeding associate, you play an essential part in the running of the molecular breeding pipeline that assists and informs our breeding program. You will take responsibility for managing the sampling workflows for molecular breeding projects by creating planting, crossing and harvest lists using our proprietary breeding database. You will plan molecular marker projects, prepare marker orders, and analyse and interpret datasets generated with the latest molecular marker technologies using state-of-the-art software.

You will work closely with technicians, breeders and scientists, and will act as contact person for the marker lab at KWS Saat SE headquarters in Germany. You will be actively involved in phenotyping of populations in the field and glasshouse and will train technicians to assist you.

Furthermore, you will have a leading role in improving and streamlining workflows for practical work and data analysis, including creating new scripts for evaluating marker data. You will take responsibility for research projects to enhance our molecular capabilities, including developing new targeted markers for important traits and ensuring they are implemented in our breeding program. You will also lead a molecular breeding assistant to enable them to carry out routine analyses for the team.



You are a pragmatic and organized team player who can provide timely data-driven solutions. You have excellent interpersonal skills with the mindset to interact with multi-disciplinary and international colleagues.


  • MSc in Molecular Biology, Plant Breeding, Genetics or related field
  • Good knowledge of molecular breeding and associated techniques/technologies
  • Practical knowledge and experience in molecular software and data management tools (R, Excel, Access, PowerBI)
  • Affinity to create R scripts and work with large data sets and databases
  • Strong communication skills in spoken and written Dutch and English
