BREEDING ASSISTANT (M/F/D)

Full time I located in Boise (ID- USA) I at the earliest opportunity

The breeding assistant supports the breeding program by working with breeders to manage task execution. This in-person and full-time position located at our Boise, Idaho site assists with coordinating projects, organizing breeding program operations, and helping to develop an elite germplasm pipeline.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administration and management support to all aspects of the breeding program, taking full responsibility for some aspects
  • Collect, analyze, summarize, and curate data into database
  • Assist breeders and agronomists with data collection and curation
  • Provide instruction and participate as a team member in carrying out breeding activities in diverse settings such as laboratories, greenhouses, fields, and warehouses.
  • Conceptual development and improvement of methods and techniques
  • Develop, document, and refine protocols and SOPs
  • Perform statistical analysis, prepare, and present technical reports with the support of breeders
  • Travel to trial locations and occasional international travel (<15%)

  • Ability to recognize and solve problems with a limited degree of supervision
  • Manages time effectively and prioritizes tasks efficiently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to work systematically and clearly communicate research findings
  • Ability to work in an international team and willingness to travel internationally
  • Ability and willingness to work long days, outdoors, in adverse weather conditions. Able to lift 50lbs.

Knowledge and skills

  • BSc or MSc in biology, agronomy, plant breeding, biostatistics, or related field
  • Experience with and passion for diligent data management
  • Advanced knowledge in MS office and familiarity with data analysis using R
